Rabat

Rabat is the capital of Morocco and only an hour away from Casablanca by train. Yesterday we went with a fellow workawayer to explore Rabat for the day. Getting to and from Rabat was much easier than I thought. The train leaves every half hour, so we had plenty to choose from and all the main stations along the way had big, visible signs, so it was clear when we arrived.

We first walked through the Medina. It was still early in the day and the stalls were being set up. I liked that most of the sellers left us alone to wander. Much different than walking through the markets in China!

Next we walked around Kasbah des Oudaias. Inside the tanned walls, there was a beautiful garden and lots of blue and white homes. We walked up to the other side of the walls where it overlooks the ocean. Then we walked through the smaller alleyway down to an outdoor tea cafe.

After a short tea and cookie break, we walked to the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V. The mausoleum was beautiful and very colorful on the inside. I also liked the guard’s costumes and have decided they are my favorite thus far!

It was a great day trip!

I will have to get a world map and see “where in the World you are” I have never even heard of some of these places. I too like that guards uniform. Looks cooler than most. Someone in our family has a very similar pocket book. I wonder if we still have it somewhere. Funny! Who would actually carry that?

You got something to say?
